Our facility has 18 holes, with a 20 station driving range that includes target greens and distance markers, a putting green that is over 7,000 sq ft, a separate short-game area green. The layout and design was completed by Herfort-Norby Golf Course Architects with an influence from Tom. The front 9 was added in June 2002 and stretches to 3,232 yards from the back tees. The front side has 2 par 5’s, 5 par 4’s and 2 par 3’s - par 36. On the front, water can come into play on each of the holes.
The back side was originally built in 1964, in 2007 we redesigned the layout and increased the average green size to 4,800 sq ft. from the back tees, it reaches 3,238 yards. The back has 3 par’s 5’s, 3 par 4’s and 3 par 3’s – par 36. On the back water comes into play on 6 holes and strategically placed bunkers are in play on 7 of the 9 holes.
Lake Miltona Golf Club is all about growing the game of golf. In 2019 we added Family Tees on every hole to help serve as an Executive Course. At 4,134 yards and par 67, it's a "course within a course" - intended for younger players and adult beginners in mind. For regular golfers, these tees can also serve as a faster contrast from the normal routing.
Garland L. and his Wife Leita M. Shields purchased, in November 1963, the Peter Jerome farm located between highway 29 and the east end of Lake Miltona for the special purpose of building a golf course. With the help of their family, construction was completed and Lake Miltona Golf Club was opened for play in the summer of 1965. A clubhouse on highway 29 was completed in 1968. Garland & Leita owned and operated the course until they sold it to their son and daughter-in-law in 1976.
Robert and Jean Shields were the owners/operators for a 20-year period. Together with their children Jon and Jennie, the family provided a well maintained nine hole course. During their ownership, an automatic irrigation system was installed, a new par 3 green was constructed and an addition was made to the clubhouse. Robert spent his time on the course while Jean took care of operations inside the clubhouse.
Tom and Patti Blank purchased LMGC in the spring of 1996. In addition to the nine hole golf course, 70 acres south of County Road 5 was quickly acquired. Since 1996, the golf course has seen constant additions and improvements: A tunnel under county road 5 was constructed in 1999 to allow access to the existing course from a new 3,200 square foot clubhouse. A second nine hole course - located south of county road 5 and now known as the front nine - was built in 2001 and opened for play in June of 2002. In 2003 another land purchase was made north of the original nine holes in anticipation of a complete redesign and renovation of those nine holes. Ultimately the layout and design was completed by Herfort-Norby Golf Course Architects with an influence from Tom. The three-phase renovation process, which included housing developments, began in the summer of 2007. With the second phase now complete, three and one half holes remain from the original 1965 layout.
